Sulut – Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) secara resmi mendorong penggunaan frasa physical distancing yang berarti menjaga jarak fisik.
WHO menyarankan penggunaan frasa ini daripada istilah social distancing (menjaga jarak sosial).
Seperti dikutip dari Reuters, WHO mengubah frasa untuk merekomendasikan jarak fisik daripada jarak sosial untuk mendorong masyarakat agar tetap terhubung melalui media sosial.
Menurut WHO, gagasan pengubahan itu adalah untuk menjernihkan pemahaman bahwa perintah untuk tetap di rumah selama wabah virus corona jenis baru (COVID-19) saat ini bukan tentang memutuskan kontak dengan teman dan keluarga, tetapi menjaga jarak fisik untuk memastikan penyakit itu tidak menyebar.
Untuk itu, WHO menjelaskan bahwa langkah menjaga jarak fisik dan mengkarantina diri bila sakit memang baik untuk menahan penyebaran COVID-19.
Namun, itu bukan berarti membuat orang-orang menjadi terisolasi secara sosial. Masyarakat tetap perlu melakukan interaksi sosial, terutama dengan memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan menggunakan media sosial. (*/JM)
