Minut-Pjs Bupati Kabupaten Minahasa Utara, Clay June Dondokambey SSTP MAP, menanam bibit tanaman porang bersama kelompok tani komunitas cinta desa yang di motori oleh ketua kelompok Eduard Watupongoh, di Desa Maumbi Kecamatan Kalawat, Sabtu (14/11/2020).
Pada kesempatan itu, Pjs Bupati Clay mengutarakan rasa kagum dan apresiasi karena, selain tanaman pangan pokok yang ada di komoditi sendiri di dalam daerah, ternyata ada potensi baru.
“Ada tanaman pangan baru, jadi ada varietas baru yang bisa dikembangkan yang tidak kalah dengan varietas unggulan kita disini dan ini luar biasa,” ujar Clay.
Selain itu juga, Pjs Bupati Clay memotivasi agar tanaman porang ini bisa berhasil di daerah lain.
“Diharapkan tanaman tersebut bisa berhasil di daerah lain, jadi ini kan baru musim tanam pertama, selain kita tahu manfaatnya juga harus mencari pasar,” katanya.
Diketahui tanaman Porang (Amorphopallus muelleri) merupakan tanaman herbal yang dapat tumbuh hingga mencapai ketinggian sekitar 1,5 meter, tanaman ini merupakan tanaman penghasil umbi, yang banyak hidup di hutan tropis. Secara fisik, tanaman porang tumbuh dengan tangkai tunggal atau batang bercorak belang-belang hijau-putih. (Adve)
