Manado – Sulawesi Utara letak Geografis nya berada di Episentrum kategori “Ring of Fire” atau cincin api.
Cincin api pasifik atau lingkaran api pasifik merupakan daerah yang sering mengalami gempa bumi dan letusan gunung berapi yang mengelilingi cekungan Samudra Pasifik.
Daerah ini berbentuk seperti tapal kuda dan mencakup wilayah sepanjang 40.550 Kilometer, daerah ini juga sering disebut sebagai sabuk gempa Pasifik.
Oleh karena itu, Pemerintah Provinsi Sulut selalu mengimbau kepada masyarakat untuk tetap waspada dalam menghadapi kemungkinan bencana alam yang akan terjadi.
Wakil Gubernur Sulut Drs Steven O. E. Kandouw mengungkapkan pada dasarnya letak geografis Sulut termasuk pada wilayah “Ring of Fire” atau rentan terkena bencana alam, baik vulkanik, tektonik, longsor, banjir dan sebagainya.
“Kita sebagai pemerintah harus sigap, siap. Kita harus mampu beradaptasi dengan keadaan ini. Kita harus mampu mempunyai mitigasi tentang kebencanaan,” ungkap wagub.
Wagub Kandouw menyebutkan bahwa Gubernur Olly selalu mengingatkan untuk selalu berperilaku ramah terhadap lingkungan. Sebagaimana banjir di Papakelan merupakan akibat daripada deforestasi yaitu proses penghilangan hutan.
“Juga dengan maraknya penambangan liar, baik penambang pasir dan emas. Memang kita harus mengadakan dan mendorong pembangunan, tapi jangan lupa pembangunan yang ramah lingkungan,” sebut Wagub Kandouw
Menurut Wagub Kandouw, beberapa waktu lalu masyarakat melakukan demo tentang lingkungan hidup dan galian C. Regulasi RTRW/RTRL sudah jelas asalkan jangan sampai merusak lingkungan. (J.Mo/*)
