Sulut-Konferensi Internasional tentang Terumbu Karang Berkelanjutan 2024, selama 13 – 15 Desember 2024 di Manado, Indonesia resmi dibuka pada Jumat (13/12/2024) di GKIC Kairagi Manado.
Mewakili Menteri Kelautan dan Perikanan RI, Direktur Jenderal Pengelolaan Ruang Laut Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan, Irjen. Pol. Drs. Victor Gustaf Manoppo, M.H. didampingi Dr. Frank Keith Griffin selaku Executive Director of CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat usai pembukaan kegiatan menyampaikan, kegiatan ini dilaksanakan menyadari pentingnya kawasan Segitiga Terumbu Karang ini dan dalam rangka peringatan “Hari Nusantara 2024.
Tema Konferensi ini kata Manoppo adalah melestarikan Terumbu Karang: Sains, Konservasi, Ketahanan, dan Pembangunan. Dan dengan mempertemukan para ahli, pembuat kebijakan, dan pemangku kepentingan dari seluruh dunia, konferensi ini bertujuan untuk mendorong kolaborasi, berbagi pengetahuan, dan pengembangan solusi praktis untuk menjaga Segitiga Terumbu Karang bagi generasi mendatang.
Konferensi ini akan menjadi wadah untuk meningkatkan kesadaran, berbagi praktik terbaik, dan memobilisasi dukungan untuk pelestarian dan pemanfaatan berkelanjutan ekosistem laut yang penting ini.
“Tujuan Menyadari pentingnya kawasan Segitiga Terumbu Karang ini dan dalam rangka peringatan Hari Nusantara 2024 dan Konferensi ini bertujuan juga untuk mendorong kolaborasi, berbagi pengetahuan, dan pengembangan solusi praktis untuk menjaga Segitiga Terumbu Karang bagi generasi mendatang. Ini akan menjadi platform untuk meningkatkan kesadaran, berbagi praktik terbaik, dan memobilisasi dukungan untuk pelestarian dan pemanfaatan berkelanjutan ekosistem laut yang penting ini di negara-negara CTI yang terdiri dari Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipina, Papua Nugini, Kepulauan Solomon, dan Timor-Leste,”ungkapnya.
Terdapat 13 topik kunci yang dibicarakan, dengan berbagai pemaparan menarik yang akan dibawakan, antara lain:
• “Status Terumbu Karang Dunia” oleh ICRI-Perancis.
• “Molluska Pada Terumbu Karang Di Sulawesi Utara” oleh Universitas Sam Ratulangi.
• “Status dan Cara Merestorasi Terumbu karang” oleh ZMT-Bremen, Jerman.
• “Peran Laut Indonesia Menghadapi Perubahan Iklim Global” oleh Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan.
• “Penggunaan Machine Learning Untuk Mengamati Pemutihan Karang dan Gelombang Panas di Laut” oleh Sun Yat Sen University, Tiongkok.
• “Terumbu Karang Sebagai Potensi Penemuan Obat Baru” oleh Hokkaido University, Jepang.
• “Ekonomi Biru di Taman Nasional Raja Ampat, Papua Barat”, oleh Charleston College, South Carolina – USA.(*)
